Morphine (ATC code: N02AA01) is a major alkaloid of opium and acts on so-called μ opioid receptors in the brain. It thereby reduces the transmission of pain impulses in the central nervous system (CNS) before and after the synapses. The active ingredient is mainly used to relieve severe pain.
Kapanol® prolonged-release capsules are indicated for the treatment of moderate to severe prolonged pain as well as for oral substitution treatment of opioid dependence. Capsules to be dosed 1x or 2x daily due to their prolonged-release formulation and depending on the prescription.
